Initial Goals of the Korean War
One initial goal of the Korean War was to prevent the spread of communism. President Truman believed that the American way of freedom, was in danger of being run down by communism. Truman was involved with containment, keeping communism from spreading anywhere else. Soon enough, Truman realized he was in a fight of world domination with Russia who was in control of North Korea. So technically, the owners of North and South Korea were fighting with each other as much as they were. Stalin, the leader of Russia, was a big fan of communism and wanted to spread is as far as he could. This made the tension between Russia and America even stronger. The fighting kicked off "officially" when North Korea attacked South Korea in 1950 when tension broke between the two sides.
